IN
YOUR CORPORATE CHARTER, THE WHY IS THE VISION STATEMENT… The
Vision Statement is not a specific definition of your products or
services. It Is a compact
statement (usually one sentence) of WHY you are in business, and what
your purpose is in contributing to the world.
It is not a statement to be taken lightly.
It
usually embodies the philosophies and the precepts of the founder(s).
Yet, it should also be motivating enough that it keeps you going
in the burdensome times, when profits are light and people are heavy.
So it looks beyond the mundane of day-to-day business and
captures a “vision” for what really is important. Clearly,
the greatest purpose or will that we can be aligned to is the Lord’s.
As you develop a vision for your business that aligns your
employees and makes sure you are all on the same page, know that the
vision (or the plans) that are in agreement with His will, whether
overtly or covertly, is the vision (or the plans) that will prosper! What
is important in God’s economy? Can’t
go wrong with the two greatest commands: Love God with all your heart
and love your neighbor as yourself.
It would be wise to keep these two commands in the forefront of
your mind when developing a vision statement. Here
are some examples of Vision Statements from Christian-run companies: Chick-Fil-A:
We exist to glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is
entrusted to us and to have a positive influence on all who come in
contact with Chick-fil-A. Interstate
Battery: To glorify God as we supply our customers worldwide with top
quality, value-priced batteries, related electrical power-source
products, and distribution services. The
Oaktree Consulting Group: To be an inspirational force in the growth and
prosperity of our clients. Prov
29:18 Where
there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law,
happy is he. Matt
22:36-39 “Teacher, which
is the great commandment in the Law?”
And He said to him, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL
YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’
This is the great and foremost commandment.
The second is like it, “YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS
YOURSELF.’” |
