From Dano
Randal,
I tend to agree with the crisis mode statement.
For some reason it today's fast pace age, we tend to overwhelm ourselves with stuff, work, dreams, commitments, etc... For some reason we tend to have a hard time saying NO!
I remember when we went through "Margin" together. This book gave me the ability to see what this fast pace dream life had done to me and how it just wore me down.
Now prioritizing these tasks and appointments in "God's" order is not always "our" plan.
"
But seek ye first
the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added
unto you."
We must not put God on the back burner! He must be the first a foremost thing in our everyday lives. If we do not engage ourselves into ministry, we are missing out on his blessings. Does this mean an accountability group? For some it might, others it might be youth ministry or making sack lunches down in the local mission.
Whatever we have been gifted with as a ministry, it should not be done as an afterthought. We need to look at our margin, find where God is, and if there is not enough Red in our print it might be time to rethink how we are spending our/His time.
12 people for an accountability group, wow, that's pretty big. I don't know how transparent one could get with 12 guys and I don't know what the bible says about accountability groups of 12 but I do know this " A cord of three strands is not quickly broken."
Looks like God has give this group what it needed to start with, pray and more will come.

FAT DUMB & HAPPY
THAT’S
WHAT IT SEEMS LIKE… Why,
on average are people carrying a minimum of an extra 20 pounds with them?
That’s what a good ole’
boy from Georgia asked me this morning at breakfast. I
told him that as far as keeping commitments, it appears that the GOOD OLE BOYS
FROM GEORGIA are a mite worse than those California entrepreneurs. And
that’s quite an indictment
for
a southern boy to hear.
One
of my associates was trying to launch a new accountability group and he had 12
people tell him that they would be there, and only
3
showed up at the meeting.
My
father was a man who grew up in a time when your word was your word.
All you had to do was shake on it and it was as good as gold.
He would have never dreamed of telling someone he would do something
and then not do it. He was a true
man of integrity.
So
what’s the problem?
(E-mail
me with your response and I will post it to the website.)
1.
Have
we let our slovenly eating (and other)
habits
spill over to
the
rest of our lives?
2.
Do
we want to avoid confrontation so much that we can’t say no
but
we lie in the process?
3.
Are
we operating in crisis all the time that we are on the brink of disaster
and
simply are out of control?
4.
Are
we maybe, at the foundation, like Josiah the king, we’ve lost track of
God’s revelation and we aren’t functioning by His rules any more.
What
does God’s Word say?

Ki 22:8, 10-11, 13
8
Then Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, "I have
found the book of the law in the house of the LORD."…Moreover, Shaphan
the scribe told the king saying, "Hilkiah the priest has given me a
book." And Shaphan read it in the presence of the king…
When the king heard the words of the book of the law, he tore his
clothes… "Go, inquire of the LORD for me and the people and all Judah
concerning the words of this book that has been found, for great is the wrath
of the LORD that burns against us, because our fathers have not listened to
the words of this book, to do according to all that is written concerning
us."
