Coach's Tip

  By Randal Walti

Surmounting the Insurmountable Step 3

Are you facing the insurmountable project. Like David and Goliath. David was just a young shepherd boy and Goliath was a giant  of the Philistine camp. He was over nine feet tall. Last time we talked about step 2 to overcoming insurmountable obstacles - REAFFIRM PROPER MOTIVATION. This time we will talk about the third step REJECT THE DISCOURAGEMENT OF OTHERS In preparation for battle, David doesn't listen to the others, not even the Israeli King Saul. "You are not able to go out against this Philistine and fight him; you are only a boy".

This was the 41st day that Goliath came out and taunted the Israelites. Yet no one answered. Then when David answers, all that Saul can do is discourage him. When you are tackling the insurmountable there are all kinds of discouragers. Nehemiah, in the rebuilding of the wall around Jerusalem, said "Don't be afraid of them. Remember the Lord who is great and awesome" Most people haven't risked failure in their life because they haven't tried anything new; they keep on doing the same thing. They also do not test their faith.

Two years ago God gave me a vision for a prayer breakfast in Hall County. Talk about discouragers, they came out of the woodwork. I called the first meeting and invited what I thought were the movers and shakers of Hall County. Two people showed up; Don Delozier and myself. While we were waiting for more people to show (which they didn't) Don invited a local pastor, Bucky Kennedy, who happened to be in the restaurant that morning to hear about our project. Right there, Bucky bought into the vision and agreed to pay for the speaker expense.

When faced with the insurmountable, the man of God

               1) RECALLS PAST VICTORIES
               2)
REAFFIRMS PROPER MOTIVATION
               3) REJECTS THE DISCOURAGEMENT OF OTHERS

Next time we will talk about the fourth step in this seven step process.

God's Word reference: 1 Samuel 17 1- 58

What does God's Word have to say?

Nehemiah 5:1 When our enemies heard that we were aware of their plot and that God had frustrated it, we returned to the wall, each to his own work.
