Coach's Tip

  By Randal Walti

Surmounting the Insurmountable

Are you facing the insurmountable project. Like David and Goliath. David was just a young shepherd boy and Goliath was a giant  of the Philistine camp. He was over nine feet tall. He had a bronze helmet on his head and wore a coat of scale armor of bronze weighing one  hundred pounds; on his legs he wore bronze greaves, and a bronze javelin was slung on his back. His spear shaft was like a weaver's rod, and its iron point weighed almost 20 pounds.

Now the Philistines were outnumbered and challenged Saul's army to a singular combat and since they had Goliath as a champion, they were very confident. When they called for Israel's champion, no one would accept the challenge, no one except David. We are going to look to David for insight on how to overcome the insurmountable obstacle.

The first step, that David took in this seven step process, was to recall past victories. David even at his young age had slew a lion as the lion looked to attack his herd. Having been identified with the God of Israel, David during the battle, had relied on God for victory.

Moreover David said, "The LORD, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine." And Saul said to David, "Go, and the LORD be with you!"

In your past, in your trials and tribulations, have you ever relied on God for victory. That's the wisdom we can take from David. The first step is to recall past victories. Like when I relied on God for guidance and direction on whether I should have this experimental brain surgery or not. I prayed for God's direction and he told me to go for it. So that is the first step - RECALL PAST VICTORIES - next time we will talk about the second step to overcoming insurmountable obstacles.
